Rising Star Hughes heads to BRM

CAMS Foundation Rising Star Lochie Hughes has confirmed his 2018 seat will be at dual-championship winning squad Team BRM.

“The championship has produced some great drivers and races over the years so I’m very excited to race this category as I believe it’s the best place to start my career,” Hughes said.

“Team BRM have been very welcoming to me. They are a very experienced team and have been very successful in the Australian F4 Championship. I am hoping to learn a lot from them this year.”

Hughes, who was most recently part of the Ricciardo Kart squad, has enjoyed a highly credentialed karting career.

“After six years in karting, 2018 will be my first year in cars,” Hughes said.

“I’ve had numerous results in Europe, America, and Australia. Highlights being second at the WSK Gold cup, vice-champion of Florida winter tour, vice-Australian KA2 Champion, and Race Of Stars Champion.”

The Gold Coast teenager is eager to learn new skills and further develop as a racing driver in Formula 4.

“2018 should be an exciting year, full of challenges and a steep learning curve. I recently did a test day with BRM and did not want to get out of the car,” Hughes said.

“The team has a great mix of experienced and rookie drivers, which should assist with my development. Hopefully we can achieve some great results and run at the front.”

Hughes’ confirmation brings Team BRM driver line-up for 2018 to three, with Thomas Smith and Aaron Love recently announced.

AGI Sport and Patrizicorse have also named part of their line-ups, with further drivers to be named over the coming weeks.
