Six Race Streak For Ojeda

AGI Sport’s Jayden Ojeda has won Round Three of the 2018 CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship at Queensland Raceway, topping every practice session, Castrol Pole Position and three races.

Ojeda secured Sunday’s two remaining races in dominant fashion, with a full suite of 75 points added to his championship tally.

“Good start for our championship now that we’re halfway,” Ojeda said.

“To get six of those nine race wins is definitely something we’re pretty happy to walk away with. Hopefully we can keep some of this momentum, it’ll be difficult because I know the guys behind us will be pushing just as hard as we are to get in front of us.”

Heading into the third and final race, the battle was on to decide the final two podium places – with Cameron Shields, Ryan Suhle and Aaron Love tied on 30 points apiece. Second place in Race Three was enough for Shields to finish runner-up to Ojeda with 48 points and the first Queensland driver home.

“It was certainly a very tough weekend, even though we did come away with second overall. Jayden certainly did get a very big championship lead,” Shields said.

“Between now and Winton, myself and the team will be working really hard to get that better result and get that championship lead back.”

Shields’ Team BRM teammate Aaron Love made his third consecutive appearance on a round podium to finish third with 45 points, ahead of Ryan Suhle who finished the round fourth.

“Third for the round is good, but unfortunately we didn’t get there in the last race. Hopefully we have a better chance going into Winton after tuning up the car and myself,” Love said.

“It’s exciting for the double-header at Winton. If you’re good there, you’re good for two rounds.”

Lochie Hughes continued his streak of Burson Auto Parts Rookie of the Round awards, again topping the rookie class for the third consecutive weekend. Hughes was placed fifth overall in the standings, followed by Zayd Tones, Jackson Walls, Josh Smith, Thomas Smith and Ardie Jonic rounding out the top ten.

“We found a lot of stuff this weekend with my driving and with the car,” Hughes said.

“So now I’ve had really good starts across all three races. Every weekend I’ve been learning everything new. I’m really happy to be the Burson Auto Parts Rookie of the Round again.”

Winton Motor Raceway will next host the CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship’s double-round (Rounds Four and Five) on September 1–2, with crews to tackle six races across the Shannons Nationals weekend.
