2017 CAMS Australian Formula 4 Championship runner-up Liam Lawson was fortunate to have a one-on-one encounter with Ferrari Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel at the German Grand Prix.
Lawson, who is this year competing in the German Formula 4 Championship, recorded his first pole position and clinched another race podium at Hockenheim.
“I was very happy to get my first pole [position]. The Van Amersfoort team [VAR] had worked really hard to get a faster car than we had the last time here so it’s nice to see that hard work pay off,” said Lawson.
The weekend was capped off by having lunch with Vettel and meeting his compatriot Brendon Hartley of Toro Rosso.
“Having lunch with Sebastian Vettel was a dream come true,” Lawson said.
“He’s a really nice guy, he showed us around his car, took us through the Ferrari garage and then we had lunch in the Ferrari hospitality area with him.
“I got to spend quite a bit of time with him personally and he was very easy to talk with.”
Lawson’s attention now turns to the penultimate round of the ADAC German Formula 4 Championship at the Nurburgring circuit in three weeks time.
