2017 CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship runner-up Liam Lawson has repeated the feat to finish second in the 2018 ADAC German Formula 4 Championship.
Despite Lirim Zendeli wrapping up outright honours in the last round at the Nurburgring, Lawson had to fight Enzo Fittipaldi and Frederik Vesti for the runner-up spot. Two pole positions and two podium finishes helped Lawson secure the spot by nine points over Fittipaldi at the Hockenheim finale.
Lawson’s German Formula 4 season concluded with 11 podiums and three race wins with the Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) squad.
“It’s been a tough championship and a massive learning year,” Lawson said.
“VAR gave me a great car and the team has been just the best to work with. I owe a huge thanks to my engineer Francisco and my mechanic Ian. We gave it everything and to come away with second and top VAR driver is a good reward.
“I can’t thank Turners, Giltrap and the Porter Group enough for the support they’ve given me this year, without that and the faith of my backers in New Zealand this wouldn’t have been possible.”
Lawson will return to his native New Zealand and visit the Australian Formula 4 Championship paddock in November, with Lawson to appear at the end of year awards gala as the guest of honour at the final round in Pukekohe.
