Experience Shows In Opening Practice

Championship frontrunners Jayden Ojeda and Ryan Suhle have topped the timesheets in opening practice for the CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship’s first visit to Pukekohe in New Zealand.

The AGI duo were near identical in Friday morning’s first exploratory laps of the Pukekohe circuit, separated by only 0.06 seconds after 20 minutes of running.

Third place was an impressive start for Team BRM driver Thomas Smith, who is the only driver to have previously visited Pukekohe earlier this year in an open-wheeler. Smith was less than half a second off Ojeda and Suhle.

Aaron Love, who is seeking to snatch runner-up honours in the championship from Suhle, was fourth in opening practice ahead of Burson Auto Parts Rookie leader Lochie Hughes.

Antonio Astuti, whose Formula 4 is being prepared by AGI Sport this weekend, was sixth fastest in his first overseas racing experience. Jackson Walls, Josh Smith, Zayd Tones and Ardie Jonic rounded out the top ten.

The field will regroup again for Practice Two this afternoon at 1:10pm NZDT, with live coverage on Fox Sports Australia and Sky Sport New Zealand.
