Liam Lawson first local for TRS

2017 CAMS Australian Formula 4 Championship runner-up Liam Lawson is the first New Zealander confirmed for the 2019 Castrol Toyota Racing Series.

Partnering with M2 Competition, the five-week summer series will keep Lawson’s racing momentum continuing after his successful 2018 campaign in German Formula 4. Lawson is also fresh from a dominant showing in this year’s Asian F3 finale last weekend in Sepang, Malaysia.

Lawson had hoped to race in the series last year, but fell several weeks short of the minimum age requirements to compete. Now aged 16, Lawson is excited to race again on home soil.

“I’ve watched the series for years and travelled up and down the country following it so to finally get a seat to race is fantastic,” said Lawson.

“I’m more excited than I’ve been for anything. To race at home with my family and everyone that’s supporting me to race overseas is so special. I’m really, really excited.”

With support from a key group of New Zealand supporters, Lawson will be eager to stamp his local authority against the field of highly-credentialed international junior racers.

“People behind the scenes have worked really hard to make this happen and when they told me I’d be racing I just couldn’t stop smiling. I’m so happy,” Lawson said.

Lawson joins fellow Australian Formula 4 colleague Thomas Smith, who was earlier this week confirmed to make a start in the 2019 series with Giles Motorsport.
