New South Welshman Dylan Thomas will field an independently run entry in the CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship season opener at next week’s Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix.
Running under the Tank Motorsport banner, Thomas will make his Australian Formula 4 debut after several seasons competing across Formula Vee, Mini Challenge, Toyota 86 Series, Production cars, and even in the Australian Targa Events. This one-off drive also complements previously stints in Aussie Racing Cars, V8 Ute Series and Carrera Cup.
Thomas is relishing the chance to enjoy the Albert Park Circuit aboard an open-wheeler.
“The Australian Grand Prix is a must-do event for any driver, and I’m keen to push the F4 car around a proper Grand Prix circuit,” Thomas said.
“We are mostly out there to enjoy ourselves for the weekend, but hopefully keep some of the younger guys honest and race hard.”
Though Thomas will be up against fresh faces in motor sport from the world of karting, he will not be the only wildcard entry to take on the field. Along with 2018 Champion Jayden Ojeda making a farewell appearance at the Grand Prix with AGI Sport, Thomas will also be up against Brenton Griguol at Team BRM.
Round One of the 2019 CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship will support the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2019 from 14–17 March.
