Burson Auto Parts Rookie of 2018 Lochie Hughes is aiming high ahead for his second full season in the CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship.
With the season beginning at next week’s Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix, Hughes will again partner with Team BRM and has his sights set on the outright championship title.
“I’m so excited to be joining Team BRM again in 2019,” Hughes said.
“Last year was a great season with such a great team. It has been such a long break since the last round, I’m busting to get racing again.”
Hughes is also confirmed as a 2019 CAMS Rising Star for the second year running.
“I’m honoured. It’s great recognition and reward for all the hard work we achieved in 2018,” Hughes said.
“The Rising Star program allowed me to gain valuable experience and network with new people. Being a CAMS Rising Star will allow me to keep chasing my dreams and great confidence for the 2019 season.”
Hughes joins a five-car line-up at Team BRM for the Australian Grand Prix and will have his work cut out for him with his teammates Ryan Suhle and Tommy Smith equally hungry for title success.
The karting graduate shone in last year’s championship with a handful of podiums and a breakthrough race win at Winton Motor Raceway. With support from sponsor Leipzig, Hughes hopes to be a regular fixture on the podium.
“I’m very excited to announce that I will have Leipzig as my title sponsor for 2019,” Hughes said.
“I am proud to be apart of them and can’t thank them enough for the support this season.”
Round one of the 2019 CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship will support the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2019 from 14–17 March.
