After making her Formula 4 debut at Sandown Raceway, Caitlin Wood returns to the championship next weekend at Phillip Island.
Despite limited running during a shakedown at Wodonga in September, Wood reflected on her debut race at Sandown as a positive experience.
“It was a big jump. A little bit of pressure for myself I think, and just trying to overcome all of that, and get through it – and I think we did a really good job,” Wood said.
“We finished sixth in the first race and we kept on getting quicker over the weekend, and that’s all we wanted to do was just to keep on improving.”
Now armed with a full race weekend’s worth of experience with AGI Sport, Wood completed a successful test day at Winton earlier this week – with the Jayco Dealer Team driver making the switch to DREAM Motorsport.
Wood expects to make further progress in her second race weekend, as she prepares to battle with other drivers with several months’ worth of Formula 4 experience.
“I’ll definitely be happy in the top five or six,” Wood said.
“These guys have been racing them all year and I’ve sort of just jumped in and getting as much seat time as possible to try to bring myself up to speed and improve myself.”
As for her plans for the 2016 season, Wood anticipates to take part in a full Formula 4 programme.
“At the moment we are looking to do Formula 4 next year. Anything can happen these days in motor sport, we’ll see what budget brings, all that sort of stuff,” Wood said.
“Hopefully you’ll see me here again next year.”
