Championship leader Jordan Lloyd demonstrated supreme skill aboard his Team BRM machine to claim victory in Race 2 at Phillip Island, with thrilling racing throughout the grid.
Starting from fifth on the grid, Lloyd clawed his way back into the lead on Lap 7. Positioning his car onto the inside of Turn 1, Lloyd grabbed the lead after Thomas Randle and Jimmy Vernon swapped the lead throughout the race in an entertaining battle.
Randle had made a superb start on the opening lap to grab Harry Hayek’s second place, until the Safety Car made an appearance after Zane Goddard made contact with the wall at Turn 2.
Goddard and Hayek had both left the track on Lap 2, in an incident similar to Luis Leeds’ off-track excursion in Race 1, after Goddard attempted to pass Will Brown on the inside of Turn 1.
Jimmy Vernon secured a hard fought second position, with the Team Toolforce Racing driver ecstatic prior to race start after an equally entertaining Race 1.
Will Brown secured another podium finish for Saturday’s races, securing third place by 0.3s over Preston Hire DREAM Motorsport pilot Luis Leeds.
Leeds was supreme in his climb back toward the front of the field after a difficult Race 1, with Hayek equally impressive to recover to fifth after his early race excursion.
Unfortunately for Leeds’ teammate Randle, an off-track excursion saw the young Victorian drop to ninth position.
Tom Grech, after encountering fuel surge issues aboard his IQ Option AGI Sport car, started from the pit lane and concluded the race in sixth position.
Frankie Maiolo and Caitlin Wood rounded out the remaining positions for seventh and eighth respectively.
Race 3 for the CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship will commence Sunday 1:00pm AEDST on Fox Sports 5, live timing at formula4.com.au and on Twitter via #F4AU and @Formula4AU.
