Luis Leeds Joins Red Bull Junior Team

Australian Formula 4 driver Luis Leeds has been selected to join the Red Bull Junior Team from 2016.

The 15-year-old Victorian driver confirmed he is making the move to the UK’s MSA Formula to race with Arden Motorsport.

Leeds captured the attention of Red Bull after a stellar season in the CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship, and claiming a win in the Formula 4 support race at the recent Formula 1® Mexican Grand Prix.

“To travel overseas and race in Mexico was an amazing experience and to have the success was unbelievable,” Leeds enthused.

“To think that I am now part of the Red Bull Junior Team is just incredible and I can’t wait for the MSA Formula season to start in Britain.

Racing in identical machinery to the Australian Formula 4 Championship, Leeds is looking forward to the challenge of Europe after spending the year racing the Preston Hire supported DREAM Motorsport #96 Mygale.

“I know that the level of competition will be much higher but at least the cars will be the same so I can take what I have learnt here [in Australia] and make use of it.”

Leeds joins the highly respected Arden Motorsport team in 2016, who fielded three cars in the 2015 MSA Formula Championship with Enaam Ahmed, Ricky Collard and Sandy Mitchell – Collard was the highest placed Arden driver, finishing second behind eventual champion Lando Norris.

“It’s all been possible through my family and DREAM Motorsport,” Leeds said.

“They’ve developed me as a driver this year, heading towards my goal of making F1.

“I also want to say a big thank you for everyone who has given me support in 2015. To Preston Hire and Peter O’Shea for their generous sponsorship, and to DREAM Motorsport for all the development this year.”

Category Manager Cameron McConville is excited and proud to see an Australian Formula 4 driver be given the opportunity to progress overseas, with the championship only wrapping up last weekend in Sydney.

“I’m thrilled that one of our 2015 Australian F4 graduates has attracted the interest of Red Bull on the road to F1,” McConville said.

“It’s a great chance to benchmark our Australian F4 drivers against the rest of the world, and a strong endorsement that a brand like Red Bull has kept an eye on our Formula 4 drivers.

“On behalf of the team behind the CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship, we’re all extremely proud and wish Luis all the best in 2016.”

In preparation for his 2016 campaign, Leeds will complete two days of testing in Valencia with Arden Motorsport next week.

The first round of the 2016 MSA Formula Championship will get underway at the Brands Hatch (Indy) circuit on April 2–3.
