SCT Logistics-supported drivers Nick Rowe and Jack Smith are look forward to this weekend’s upcoming CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship round at Phillip Island, after a successful opening round at Symmons Plains.
Rowe assumes the role as the senior AGI Sport driver in 2016, having raced for the squad for most of the 2015 season. With two newcomers in Smith and Josh Conroy joining the AGI Sport fold, Rowe has enjoyed being a mentor to his new teammates.
“It’s been pretty good actually trying to teach these boys,” Rowe said.
“Jack’s gone good, improved over the [Symmons Plains] weekend and we’ve got the same engineer Nath. Basically we’ve just been trying to work with each other.”
“We both get along really well and it’s really helped having Nick beside me helping me with data and driving and everything. It’s a great advantage for me,” Smith said.
Smith, who graduates from karting, adapted to the routine of a competitive race weekend for the first time at Symmons Plains and is looking forward to finding more speed within himself as the year progresses.
“It’s been a great first weekend for us having not done a car race before,” Smith said.
“Getting the starts sorted and just the procedures and everything, improving over the weekend. I’m really excited for the rest of the year. I hope to move up a bit further and be able to run up the front by the end of the year. That’s my intentions anyway.”
The two SCT Logistics supported drivers have developed a strong working relationship and an equally strong friendship outside of racing.
“Me and Jack get to look at the crowd walking around, look at some girls…we have a good time!,” Rowe said.
Whilst Rowe enjoys the presence of his rookie teammates at AGI Sport, Rowe’s intentions are clear with regard to his championship aspirations.
“Hopefully we can get up there and go for the title and represent SCT Logistics as well,” Rowe said.
The CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship will first hit the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit during the First Friday Practice session at 9:35am AEST.
