Junior Racing Development has revealed their intention to join the CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship for the 2016 season.
Established in 2006, the team has had success in both Victorian and Australian Formula Vee Championships, and is owned by Michael and Daniel Reinhardt together with Brett MacLennan.
The team’s motivation has been to not only be highly competitive, but also nurture young karters on their pathway to more senior categories.
“JRD has chosen to join the CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship after a lot of careful consideration … we felt that the time was now right for us to step up to another category and Formula 4 was in the end the most logical step for the team,” MacLennan said.
“In our discussions with karters over the past couple of years it was the category that they were all leaning towards.
“The technology that is incorporated within the cars also best represents that of the categories drivers will encounter in other open wheel series overseas or the Carrera Cup, Australian GT or Supercar categories here in Australia.
“The fact the championship runs as a support to the V8 Supercars Championship, and also travels to New Zealand with the Australian GT category, really is a big chance for the drivers to show off their talents in front of their future bosses, and as Formula 4 is fully telecast live on Fox Sports and the Ten Network, it is a big tick for sponsors.”
The Melbourne-based team is looking for two racers to join their team for a 2016 assault on the championship.
“In 2016 it is our intention to field two cars in the championship, this is however fully dependent upon the team signing two drivers for the championship,” MacLennan continued.
“We have had discussions with a number of drivers who would like to join the team and are working very hard to get their budgets together, however right now nothing is currently locked-down so we have seats available for drivers with a budget looking to join the championship.”
Some of the drivers that have competed with JRD previously include 2011 National Formula Vee Champion Ryan Simpson, 2010 Victorian State and National Champion Daniel Reinhardt, Ash Quddington, and last year’s drivers James Dean and Mitch Quiddington who won the CAMS and FVAV Championships respectively.
The team has already had one of two Mygale chassis delivered to their workshop ready to be stickered and are looking forward to some added test days with rookie drivers.
The team’s official livery and sponsors will be announced in the coming weeks.
The opening round of the championship kicks off in April at Tasmania’s Symmons Plains circuit.
