Aaron Love has become the second driver this weekend to claim his first CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 race win, with victory in Sunday’s second race.
Starting from pole position, Love commanded the lead for much of the race and held his nerve even under two safety car restarts.
“It feels good, it was a pressure race. I was definitely counting down the laps,” Love said.
“In the end, we won the race with a bit of a gap so we were very happy with that. We’ll go again in race three and see where we end up for the round.”
The opening lap saw Lochie Hughes retire after he and Ryan Suhle touched wheels on the opening lap.
Suhle was later penalised five-seconds for overlapping at the safety car restart, and was demoted to fourth.
Cameron Shields reappeared on the podium after finishing seventh in this morning’s opening race, to keep in touch with championship leader Jayden Ojeda
“I started seventh and crossed the line second, so that was really good,” Shields said.
“Now moving forward, I’m on pole again for the final race. Hopefully we can turn some luck around and get the win.
“I’ve really got to win it. At this stage it’s so close, we’re sitting in third still but right now whoever’s going to win this round is going to be on top of the championship.”
Ojeda elevated to the podium as a result of Suhle’s penalty, and heads into the third and final race of the weekend with an 11-point lead over Suhle.
“It was an exciting race that time, there was a few accidents, a few safety cars which always spices things up,” Ojeda said.
“It was definitely eventful, but it was all fair in the race. We had some good pace but unfortunately didn’t get to show it with the amount of laps we had and a few minor errors by myself.
“We’ll push hard, we’re starting from the front row in Race Three so it’ll be interesting for Cameron and I to start next to each other.”
The third and final race will take place at 2:00pm, with the 12 lap finale to determine round five. Live streaming is available at formula4.com.au
